Liverpool

Coming from Liverpool, England to Toledo, Ohio is a culture shock. Seriously. I've noticed thousands of differences between the two, with Toledo accumulating much more negatives than positives the majority of the time.

The reason I am writing this blog, is to prove that there are things to do in Toledo. I'll be the first to admit, as an outsider not native to the city, It's not the most appealing place in the world, and most of the time I wonder why I'm here. Having said that, I can be civil about it and make the most of my time here. Therefore, for all of those in the same boat as me, who find it easier to stay in than to bother going out (because there is nothing to do), I'm going to try and enlighten you and explain how to enjoy a night out in this city.

I thought it would be best to start out by letting you know what I've come from and why my expectations are so high.

Liverpool
Liverpool is a city located in Merseyside, England. Liverpool is the fourth largest city in the United Kingdom and has a population of 816,216.

Liverpool's status as a port city has contributed to its diverse population, which, historically, were drawn from a wide range of peoples, cultures, and religions, particularly those from Ireland. The city is also home to the oldest black African community in the country and the oldest Chinese community in Europe.

Liverpool is internationally known for music and is recognised by Guiness world records as the World Capital City of Pop. Musicians from the city have produced 56 number one singles, more than any other city in the world.  Both the most successful male band and girl group in global music history have contained Liverpudlian members. Liverpool is most famous as the birthplace of The Beatles.
  • The Beatles are the best-selling musical group of all time, estimated by EMI to have over one billion discs and tapes sold worldwide.
  • The Beatles have notched up the most multi-platinum selling albums for any artist or musical group (thirteen in the U.S. alone).
  • The Beatles have had more number one singles than any other musical group (23 in Australia, 23 in The Netherlands, 22 in Canada, 21 in Norway, 20 in the U.S., and 18 in Sweden).
  • The Beatles have had more number one albums than any other group (19 in the U.S. and 15 in the United Kingdom).
  • The Beatles spent the highest number of weeks at number one in the albums chart (174 in the UK and 132 in the U.S.).

The city's nightlife is unrivaled in England and was voted best student night out in Europe 2008. The city centre boasts over 150 bars, over 100 clubs and over 200 restaurants, all within a 5 mile radius. The achievement of winning the European capital of culture 2008 allowed a 1 billion pound investment into the regeneration of the city centre, authorising the building of the now famous "Liverpool 1" shopping centre.

Okay, so now that we know where I have come from you can understand my need for wanting to go out and have a good time.
